Relaxed Family Photos That Still Feel Like Your Family

Family photos do not require perfectly behaved children, matching personalities, or an hour of everyone staring at the camera. I will guide you into the polished group portraits you want, but much of your session will focus on movement, connection, and the relationships that make your family yours.

I photograph families throughout Vancouver, Ridgefield, Battle Ground, Camas, Washougal, and the Portland metro area. I will help you select a location, prepare your family, and choose clothing that works well together without making everyone look overly matched.

Your final gallery will include a mix of full-family portraits, individual photographs, sibling combinations, parent-and-child moments, and the candid interactions that usually become the images families love most.

What Happens After You Book?

Once your session is reserved, I will help you choose a location that fits your family and the type of photographs you want. You will also receive guidance for choosing outfits, preparing younger children, and making the session feel manageable rather than stressful.

During the session, I will guide you through the group portraits first so we know we have them. From there, we will create smaller combinations and more relaxed photographs through movement, play, conversation, and interaction. You will never be expected to arrive already knowing how to pose.

After your session, your photographs will be professionally edited and delivered in a private online gallery where you can download, share, and print your images.

Your session can take place in a grassy field, along the river, at the beach, in an urban setting, or somewhere personally meaningful to your family, even on your own front porch. Once I know the look you want and who will be attending, I will help narrow down the best location for your family.

Vancouver WA Family Photography FAQs

What happens if my children do not cooperate?

They do not need to cooperate perfectly. I expect children to need movement, breaks, redirection, and time to become comfortable. We will work with their personalities instead of spending the entire session demanding smiles.

What should we wear?

After booking, you will receive guidance for coordinating colors, textures, and clothing without making everyone look identical. One outfit is included in the session.

How long does a family session last?

Standard family sessions typically last 45–60 minutes. Extended-family sessions generally require 60–90 minutes, depending on the number of people and requested groupings.

What photographs are included in an extended-family session?

Extended sessions generally include the entire family, each individual household, grandparents with grandchildren, sibling groups, couples, children together, and other requested combinations.

Will you take posed and candid photographs?

Yes. We will begin with the important full-family and group portraits and then move into more natural photographs that focus on movement and interaction.
