Near Cannon Beach
Haystack Rock is the landmark Cannon Beach is known for, and it gives elopements here that instantly recognizable coastal feel. The scale of the rock, the wide open shoreline, and the reflections in the sand at low tide make this one of the most visually striking ceremony spots on the Oregon Coast. Because it is the most popular area, timing matters a lot if you want it to feel more intimate and less crowded.
North Cannon Beach gives you the same beautiful stretch of shoreline but usually with a little more breathing room. It is a great option for couples who love the overall feel of Cannon Beach but want something quieter and less central than the main Haystack Rock area. You still get the coastal atmosphere, soft sand, and open views, just with a more relaxed pace.
Indian Beach, located within Ecola State Park, feels more tucked away and a little moodier than the main Cannon Beach shoreline. It is surrounded by forest, driftwood, and a more rugged section of coast, which makes it a strong fit for couples wanting something that feels a little less polished and a little more secluded. It also works well if you want beach scenery without being right in the middle of the busiest tourist area.
Ecola State Park overlooks offer a completely different perspective from the beach itself. Instead of standing at shoreline level, you get sweeping coastal views from above, with cliffs, forest, and ocean all layered together. These overlook locations are ideal for couples who want more variety in their gallery and love the idea of dramatic scenery without having to travel far from Cannon Beach.
Hug Point is one of the best nearby options for couples who want something more intimate and visually varied. Depending on the tide, you can access sea caves, cliff edges, waterfalls, and quieter sections of beach that feel far more tucked away than the main Cannon Beach shoreline. It does take more planning because of tide timing, but for couples wanting something a little more adventurous, it is absolutely worth considering.

Elopement Day Can Look Like
Cannon Beach is one of the easiest places to elope while still feeling like you’re somewhere incredible.
You don’t need to hike miles or plan something overly complicated to have a meaningful experience here. The day can stay simple, relaxed, and still feel like a big deal.
A lot of couples start their day slowly, getting ready somewhere nearby so there’s no pressure to rush. From there, it’s usually a short walk or drive to the beach, which makes everything feel a lot more manageable, especially if you’re bringing a small group.
Ceremonies can happen right near Haystack Rock or further down the shoreline depending on how private you want it to feel. After that, instead of staying in one place, we move. Walking the beach, shifting toward quieter areas, and letting the environment guide the flow of the day instead of forcing it.
As the sun drops, the light starts to reflect across the wet sand and everything softens a bit. That’s usually when the day slows down again before wrapping up or heading into whatever you have planned next.
There’s no pressure to pack a ton into it. Cannon Beach works best when you let it stay simple and actually experience it instead of trying to control every part of it.

Cannon Beach is one of the easiest places to build a relaxed, meaningful elopement day because everything is so accessible. You don’t need to overcomplicate it—the location does a lot of the work for you.
3:00 PM — Getting Ready Nearby
Most couples get ready at a nearby Airbnb or hotel within a few minutes of the beach. This keeps the start of the day calm and eliminates the need for long travel.
4:30 PM — First Look (Optional)
A first look can happen near your rental, in a quiet beach access area, or tucked into a more private spot before heading toward the main ceremony location.
5:15 PM — Head to Ceremony Location
We’ll time this based on tides and crowd flow. Sometimes that means starting closer to Haystack Rock, other times we shift slightly north or south for more privacy.
5:30 PM — Ceremony
Simple, intentional, and not rushed. Whether it’s just the two of you or a small group, this part stays focused on the moment—not the production.
6:00 PM — Beach Walk + Portraits
Instead of staying in one spot, we move. Walking along the shoreline, adjusting based on light and space, and letting things unfold naturally.
7:15 PM — Golden Hour
This is where Cannon Beach really stands out. If the tide is right, the wet sand reflects the sky and creates that soft, glowing look that feels almost unreal.
7:45 PM — Blue Hour + Final Moments
As the light fades, things slow down. This is usually where the day naturally wraps up or transitions into dinner, a beach hang, or whatever you have planned next.
Some couples choose to extend coverage a bit longer, especially if they want to document a full evening experience or explore a second nearby location like Ecola State Park

Low tide opens up the beach around Haystack Rock and gives you way more room to move around.
It also creates that reflective wet sand look that makes photos here stand out. Planning around tide charts is one of the simplest ways to improve your entire experience.

One of the biggest advantages of Cannon Beach is how accessible everything is.
Booking a place nearby means less driving, less stress, and a smoother flow to the day. You can go from getting ready to your ceremony in minutes instead of turning it into a whole production.

Many of the couples I work with choose to elope because they want something different from the traditional wedding experience, something quieter, more adventurous, and focused on their relationship rather than a production.
Oregon is one of my favorite places to photograph elopements because the landscapes here are incredible. From misty waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge to rugged cliffs along the Oregon Coast and alpine views near Mount Hood, the variety of scenery allows couples to create a wedding day that feels like an adventure.
